call for papers

Extended deadline for proposals: 2 May 2017

This call for papers should be specifically of interest to Ph.D students, academics, researchers, teachers, lexicographers, editors, and all those who, in one domain or another:

  • collaborated for various publications with Jean Dubois and/or Françoise Dubois-Charlier (at LADL - Paris 7, at the Université de Paris 10, at the Université de Paris 3, for various publications…)

  •  were one of their students, had them as Ph.D advisors, or as colleagues

  • worked with them on articles or books (dictionaries, grammar text books, etc.) notably for Editions Larousse, and the journals Languages , and Langue Française

  • used the works of Jean Dubois and Françoise Dubois-Charlier to develop their own scientific works or methods of teaching

  • have themselves published studies on their works

  • were friends with Jean Dubois and Francoise Dubois-Charlier

The fact that this conference should be centered upon both Jean Dubois and Françoise Dubois-Charlier goes without saying, for it is together they published so many of their works. In the domain of French linguistics alone they published 7 articles and 17 books. Not to mention that in the last years of their lives, Jean Dubois and Françoise Dubois-Charlier worked on their Dictionnaire Electronique des Mots which unfortunately, due to their passing, has remained an incomplete synthesis of their electronic dictionaries.

Your papers could address the following themes (though this list is not restrictive), which were all of interest to Jean Dubois and Françoise Dubois-Charlier:

  • French syntax, English syntax

  • Distributional and Transformational grammar theories

  • The semantics/syntax relationship

  • French morphology

  • Idioms

  • Lexicology

  • Lexicography

  • Discourse analysis and more specifically that of political discourse

  • Electronic dictionaries and TAL (automatic language translation)

  • Didactics in French as a foreign language; English teaching didactics

  • Neurolinguistics

  • Psycholinguistics

Those of you who wish simply to pay homage to Jean Dubois and/or Françoise Dubois-Charlier may of course also send in their proposals.
